fOOtbaLL!

Well my Christmas list didn't exactly get answered. As our friend Tim says, it's a shame we didn't get a bowl bid this year. I deny all knowledge that GT ever went to the Emerald Bowl. Didn't happen.

And as for Athens, GA, I hear rumor that it still exists. Bah. But, our cats have gotten nicer, which is the one item on the list that I would have thought the least likely. Right now, Cider is perched on my knee, purring, and Newton is perched on a shelf nearby, showing off. I think they're plotting something nefarious. Oh, well. We'll enjoy it while it lasts!

And I got some sleep, although that doesn't seem to have mellowed my bizarre sense of humor much. More fun for you!

So now the college football season is officially over. Sigh. But the national championship game was a doozy! A last minute comeback by Texas to win it all. It was lovely, because I was cheering for Texas, and I really needed to see a team that I was cheering for win. With just over a minute left and USC ahead, I could have switched sides (and I did seriously consider it; I'll admit it), but I didn't... and it paid off. Hook 'em Horns!

The funniest part was one of the interviews afterward. This rotten hussy of a sports reporter was asking Matt Leinart (USC's QB) some questions that basically came to, "So, you poor schmuck, what does it feel like to finally lose?" The poor guy was trying to to be nice, but still stand up for his team and get away from her. Maybe she realized, or maybe the boys upstairs were buzzing her earpiece and telling her to be nice, but for whatever reason, she decided to wrap up her interview by saying, "Good game and nice try anyway." But, instead of saying "Matt," she called him "Vince", which is the name of Texas' QB. Wow. That's insult to injury.

I also had a funny email from our friend Kianoush that had this link to an article about football in it. Apparently, European football is more exciting because of the upset factor. Basically, the underdog is more likely to be able to pull off a win in soccer than in American football. It's more exciting because you never know what will happen.

While that may be true for the majority of teams, they obviously didn't take Georgia Tech into account! Hee hee hee (sigh)... we never know which team will show up: the one that beat Miami and Auburn, or the one that lost to NC State and Virginia Tech. (Again, I disavow all knowledge of us being in a bowl game.) Yup, GT football sure is exciting, but it can be painful, too. And that's what my unbiased, well-documented research has revealed.

I never thought I would like football at all, much less that I would like football more than soccer (I dated the goalie of our high school team once upon a long time ago). I'm sure if I ever got to go to a professional game, I would catch some of the fever again.

The really funny thing is, every time I think of soccer, I think of Harry Potter and how all the wizards are bemused by the muggle obsession. Quiddich, now... there's a game for you!
